Meet Mark
Mark completed his bachelor’s degree in economics and computer science in 1989 from the University of Toronto and York University. He started in real estate in 1990, yielding 34 years of total real estate experience with the last 20 years in North Texas.
The first 10 years of his career were in appraisal, which included earning the AACI designation in 1995 granted by the Appraisal Institute of Canada. An AACI is qualified to undertake any valuation and consulting assignment on residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, agricultural, land and special use property types.
His appraisal experience included a 2-year position in mass appraisal with the British Columbia Assessment Authority where he valued luxury residential properties in West Vancouver, hotels and motels along the Sunshine Coast, and golf courses throughout the North Shore of Vancouver, BC.
In 1999, Mark joined Colliers International to focus and grow the Residential Rental Apartment Building brokerage business. After 3 years of successful growth, Mark was ranked in the top 5 sales agents’ nationwide at Colliers in Canada.
During that same period, he established a real estate consulting and appraisal firm (Meras Property Co) providing fee-for-service consulting and appraisal services to various financial and real estate stakeholders. Appraisal assignments included mortgage financing, assessment disputes, court-ordered valuations, and feasibility studies.
In 2002, Mark joined the Royal Bank of Canada as a Commercial Mortgage Loan Originator at the head office in downtown Toronto. In addition to daily commercial originator duties, he was also assigned a large private-investor portfolio account including more than $1B in value of residential real estate.
Mark moved to Dallas in 2004 when he was hired as the CEO for Patient Place (formerly known as Family Medical Clinics of Dallas) and Dallas Medical Holdings. This was a tremendous opportunity and experience as the operational side of the medical business allowed him to serve the medically under-served community, and the real estate side of the business allowed him to grow the medical office portfolio. It was a win-win situation on all fronts. Both companies were sold in 2016.
That same year, he formed Nexus Property Group and Paragon Property Co to act as sponsor and syndicator for the purchase, management, and disposition of Multi-Residential Properties on behalf of accredited investors. After several successful investment deals, Nexus Property Group sold its last residential rental property in 2023, which was a 120-unit rental apartment building. Currently, Nexus Property Group is focusing on the Residential Assisted Living sector.
